The club is affiliated to Shotokan Karate Ryu International Federation (SKKIF), which is a representative association of the Shotokan Karatedo International Federation (SKIF), based in Tokyo, Japan.The SKIF chief instructor is master Hirokazu Kanazawa (10th Dan). The club is fortunate to benefit from periodic visits from senior association instructors, including some of the worlds foremost authorities in the art including; master Hirokazu Kanazawa, sensei Manabu Murakami and sensei's Nobuaki, Fumitoshi and Daizo Kanazawa, as well as other senior karateka.
Sui Shin Kai was the name given to our club by Kanazawa sensei on one of his visits, the name refers to the undying strength and continuity of water. You can put an obstacle in its way but over time it will break the obstacle down and continue on its path.The club strives to live up to its name through the commitment and determinationof its members under the guidance of their instructors.
We are a friendly club that trains in traditional Shotokan karate, the club was established in 1987 by the club instructor sensei Ray Wilkin 6th Dan who is an international grading examiner. The club has other black belt instructors male and female and of various ages. Anyone is welcome at our club and we cater for all abilities and ages from 6+. We teach beginners separately from the main class with special tuition and then when comfortable and ready they join in with the main class as junior ranks after passing their first grading.
When
We train Monday nights at 6.30pm - 9.00pm and Wednesday nights at 8.00pm - 9.30pm. We also sometimes have senior grade lessons on Saturdays and often hold both club and open courses.
Where
We have two dojo locations, on Mondays training is upstairs at All Saints Church, Park Road, Blackpool, (our traditional style dojo) and on Wednesdays training is upstairs at Palatine Sports Centre, St Annes Road, Blackpool (our modern style dojo).
